Oman Dive Centre
Situated Oman Dive Centre is a unique dive resort with a dive
centre, dive school, traditional Omani style accommodation, seaside
restaurant and beach bar. Just twenty minutes away from Muscat’s
historical centre, Oman Dive Centre is nestled inside one of the
bays of Bandar Jussa.The resort counts thirty individual Barasti
bungalows dotted along its secluded and private beach amidst desert
plants and flowers.
Accommodation
The 30 Barasti huts are
directly situated on the beach among a sea of desert plants and
flowers. Each Barasti is a spacious double room with its very own
open air bathroom and shaded terrace as well as air conditioning,
fan, safety box and mini bar. The walls of the open air bathrooms
are built with rocks from the surrounding mountains and the front
terrace provides the ideal setting to sip a glass of wine before
dinner.
In line with our ecological concerns, the Barasti huts of our
ecolodge are built in traditional Omani style. Similar huts are
found in fishing villages along the coast as well as in the date
plantations of Jabal Akhdar.
Restaurants & Bars
The Odyssey Restaurant
Nestled next to the swimming pool, the Odyssey Restaurant overlooks
the azure waters of Bandar Jussa. Sit on its shaded terrace and
watch the divers come back from their morning dive while tucking
into a generous chef’s salad. Ease the afternoon away while sipping
a cool lemon mint freshly prepared by our barman.
The Odyssey Restaurant sits 100 people inside its air conditioned
rooms and 100 people on its shaded terrace. Breakfast and dinner are
displayed in the form of a buffet. Lunch is à la carte with a wide
range of salads, sandwiches, fresh fish, steaks and pasta on offer.
The Saftey Stop Bar
The resort’s Safety Stop Bar is located at the right end of the
resort’s beach. Under tinted glass lanterns and a roof of Barasti,
surrounded by deep red curtains, there are many cocktails and fresh
juices on offer. Sit in the comfortable majlis and smoke a fine
blend of Tufahtain or Double Apple from one of our shisha pipes
while discussing the day’s dives.
For sport events you can’t miss, the Safety Stop Bar is now the
proud owner of a brand new wide screen projector and satellite
receiver. Now you can sit on our stunning beach with a cold beer in
one hand and a shisha pipe in the other, furiously puffing away
while watching your favorite football team on the big screen.
Diving with Oman Dive Centre
The waters surrounding
Muscat provide fine tropical coral sea diving and the nutrient-rich
water attracts a wide variety and quantity of marine life: 85 genera
of hard and soft corals are found here including table corals,
beautiful black coral, colorful whip and teddy-bear corals. Certain
endemic species of coral grow and reproduce only here, in this very
unique plankton rich environment.
The sea is abundant with 900 species of fish ranging from the little
cleaner wrasse to the enormous whale shark. So varied is the fish
population in the waters of Oman that new species are still being
discovered and identified.
Water temperatures range from 22°C in winter to 30°C in summer, with
a thermocline at around 15m to cool you off during the summer’s
hotter months.
Visibility can reach 30 meters, although at times the massive
presence of plankton reduces it notably. However, even when
visibility is low, the sheer abundance and variety of species in
Muscat waters is enough to keep divers coming back.
Activities
In our daily program, we
offer a two-tank dive in the morning and one-tank dive in the
afternoon. Night dives are scheduled every Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday. For divers with insatiable appetites, we can also arrange
early morning dives.
Wreck diving is also regularly in our schedule.
Our qualified instructors teach all kinds of courses from beginner
level up to the professional level - speak 6 languages (English,
German, French, Italian, Spanish and Arabic) and the dive course
material is available in most of these.
Nitrox is available for Nitrox certified divers. Our qualified
instructors will be happy to help anyone get the full Nitrox
certification if you do not already have it.
Facilities
Oman Dive Centre is a
spacious and fully equipped dive centre with a custom-built diving
pool (1m / 1.5 m / 3m) and a wide range of Aqualung, Seemann, and
Mares dive equipment for rent.
A large ventilated room is available to stow away your gear. A fully
equipped workshop and qualified technicians are available for
equipment repair.
Our “fleet” now counts 4 speed boats, for a total capacity of 40
divers. |
