Information about Oman Muscat
Muscat, the capital of Oman, is
a perfect blend of old and new. The city enjoys a dramatic setting
with mountains on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other. Salalah Salalah, the largest city in Southern Oman has a unique charm with its coconut groves and banana plantations growing right to the waters edge. Its beautiful white sand beaches are a heaven for swimmers and sea lovers. The rugged beauty of its fertile plains, its fresh water springs, its bustling souqs and tropical landscape leave a lasting impression on those who holiday here. Nizwa Honoured as the capital of Oman during the 6th and 7th century, Nizwa is one of the oldest cities of the Sultanate. Blessed with three falajes, the town is filled with plantations and orchids. The magnificant Nizwa fort is one of the architectural marvels, which attracts visitors from all over the world. The Nizwa souq with its distinct Omani character, showcases a wonderful array of silver jewellery, antiques, leather goods and household utensils. For over 600 years
Sohar has played a significant role in the development of the
region. It was the capital of the Persians about which the great
Arab geographer Al-Istakhri wrote " Sohar, the heart of Oman, lives
on the sea coast and it is rich with shops where ships anchor. There
is no prosperous and developed city on the Persian Sea and Muslim
countries other than Sohar". Sur The area is famous for its turtle nesting spots of international repute. Its a haven for some of the rare and endangered turtle species. Between the months of June and August, Green, Olive and Hawkshill turtles arrive on their annual visit to lay eggs. Tagging done by researchers has proved that these slow and steady visitors travel from Somalia, Saudi Arabia and The Maldives, a distance of over 2000kms to reach their favourite nesting spots in Sur. Zighy Bay Zighy Bay is located on a headland on the northern Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman. It is set between dramatic mountains to the rear and a broad sandy beach in front. The Musandam Peninsula is an exclave region of the Sultanate of Oman, separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. Zighy Bay is located 120 km/90 Minutes drive from Dubai International Airport.
